On Friday the 8th of May, the Liverpool John Lennon Airport will host a 5k Runway Run all in the name of charity!
The Runway Run at Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been organised by the staff at the airport with the sponsored support of Liverpool Airport Holidays. The overall goal of the event is to raise funds for the airport’s corporate charity partner, The Alder Hey Children’s Charity, who take care of an average of 330,000 patients and families a year.
The event consists of a 5km course, involving the use of the airport’s 2km runway, which will also set the record for the longest runway used in a charity run.
Due to the event taking place at 3:30 am, the airport has received the necessary dispensations from the regulatory authorities so that the event can go ahead without the need to reschedule the first passenger departure which is due and 6 am.
John Lennon Airport has already raised an estimated £170,000 for The Alder Hey Charity since the start of their partnership back in 2016, with the target of £200,000 set to be met with the participation of an estimated 400 runners during this event.

Alder Hey’s Corporate Fundraiser, Ellie Freestone was quoted to say, “We are incredibly grateful for the continued support by Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The Runway Run will be an amazing and unique event for both experienced and novice runners with the money raised going to fund the enhancement of waiting areas at the hospital, so they are engaging and fun spaces our patients love to visit.”
While in response the HR and Community Director at John Lennon Airport Carol Dutton replied, “The whole of the LJLA community is looking forward to this event. This will be our biggest fundraiser for Alder Hey so far and hopefully, our most successful one! As this will be the UK’s longest runway to be used in a Runway Run this is a truly unique experience and a great way to raise money for charity!
It is extremely important to us to support such a wonderful charity and we know that every penny raised goes towards helping patients and their families at Alder Hey Hospital every day. Good luck to everyone who takes part.”
